TRADITIONAL FAMILY INSTITUTE IN AZERBAIJAN IS IN CRISIS
The traditional family institution in Azerbaijan is in a period of deep crisis, said in an interview with Objective TV (obyektiv.tv) Head Women's Crisis Centre Matanat Azizova.
Even according to official data, the number of male births is much higher than the number of girls, because of the so-called selective abortions.
It is considered more preferable to give birth to a boy: because men have access to positions in the public and the government apparatus, and the police and army are purely masculine structure.
The woman can be on a high position is she is from a privileged family, either by hook or by crook. Nevertheless, it is dependent on a husband, father, and brother.
The number of single mothers in the country is increasing, 3,000 children were born by teenagers (15-17 years old.) Tit happens because in regions religious
marriage is almost the norm, and the number of so-called civil marriages (not registered) in the capital is increasing.
Such a situation gives rise to contradictions between the system of state registration, which is against illegitimate children, and the reality.
In Azerbaijan parents have become to pay less attention to their children.
In Soviet times, almost all parents were responsible for the medical care of children, their secondary education, but today the situation is different.
Theatres, cinemas and museums are virtually empty, teenagers spend most part of their time in the gym in best case, or in music clubs and internet cafes.
In Azerbaijan, 35% of families have two children, 14% have four or more, and mostly families prefer three children.
